Overview:
A remastering of the original Nintendo/SquareSoft RPG game featuring the world famous plumber. The game is a typical turn based role playing game with Mario traversing the world looking for the Seven Stars. There really isn’t anything unique about the combat systems other than timing your button presses so you can either do more damage or block attacks. You select from a rag tag group to assist you throughout the game and, in the end, come to terms with the big bad villains.

Visuals:
The original Super Mario RPG game utilized an isometric pre-rendered background and sprites style whereas the remaster is now fully polygonal. Everything is still the same as it used to look with all of the characters having a rather squished chunky aesthetic. To be honest, I really love that they kept the style as it is what defined the game. It seems like everything from the original game is still kept so hopefully nothing was lost in translation.

Audio:
God, I love some of the music in this game. Specifically the waterfall theme. It’s helped me through some pretty emotional times when it pops up.

Completion:
I FINISHED THIS GAME! It’s a very short “my first RPG” type game but that’s what gives it a nice charm. The story is simple as are the battles but all of them are memorable. It was nice to see Mario RPG get a rerelease and it seems like some love was put into it. What a delightful game.
