Overview:
Like most of Kojima’s games, he takes inspiration from movies and Snatcher ain’t no original story. Heavily influenced by Blade Runner, you take the role of Gillian Seed who, conveniently, has amnesia as he has to get to the bottom of why synthetic robots, called Snatchers, are committing crimes. You’ll go around to various locales and talk, look, investigate, and analyze clues you find throughout the world. Occasionally you’ll get to do shooting sequences when all Hell breaks loose but, in my opinion, that really isn’t the fun part. It’s fun just being a detective and going around the town and investigating strange characters.

Visuals:
I am digging how this game looks. It’s a static game in that every screen is just a scene with you to look around the environment. It’s an adventure game first and foremost so each screen is highly detailed. What strikes me about the game is how much skin and gore is in the game. For something that came out in the mid-90s, at the height of congressional hearings about blood and sex in games, this game is not one of them that gets mentioned. There are quite some suggestive things going on in the game and I’m loving every part of it. I also love how things which were seen as novelties in the game has now been made manifest in Kojima’s later games, such as the Metal Gear Mk. II appearing in MGS 4.

Audio:
There is quite a bit of voice acting in the game. It’s not all amazing but, for the time, it has some pretty good characters. The background music and sound effects are all well done even if the story is kind of derivative. Like the visuals, I’m loving the game. The story is getting going and the stings are pretty good so I can’t wait to see more…now that I got the audio working again.

Completion:
I’m working on it! I had some hiccups with my file and the audio not working but I’m loving what I’ve seen so far. I have a feeling I know where it’s going but I don’t think the story will be that on the nose. I wish there were better ways to play this as I’d love to see this come out on more modern systems but, for now, the Sega CD is where I’ll stay. So far, I’ve seen a ripped off head and blown up a factory and it seems the story has just gotten underway. We got this, Mika!
