Overview:

The continuation that follows our crazy space marine as he traverses through places on Earth trying to eradicate the demon menace.  You won’t find any familiar places here because everything is just completely bonkers with the locales, but they get the point across.  The enemies are more abundant.  The levels are more mazelike in their design.  The secrets and puzzles have a lot more head scratching moments.  Everything is just more DOOM.  Also, it’s still a first person shooter and it has even more guns!

The rich lore…

Visuals:

DOOM II takes what made the first game so memorable and iterates upon it.  The levels are now taking place on Earth so you will see places that are supposed to resemble what we’re used to.  What you get more of, though, are open environments that are pretty massive.  They are extremely detailed but it is easy to get lost since the textures are used in every level.  It is probably nostalgia talking but I still love the way DOOM looks.  It seems timeless and I would take it over many modern games from the last decade or two.

…Are they a couple?

Audio:

You’ll get the typical gurgles and grunts throughout the game.  All the sounds are so iconic hearing Doomguy grunt as he’s looking for secrets or hearing the Arachnotron or Baron of Hell screaming when he sees you is always gut wrenching.  The main sound of the game, to me, is the super double barrel shotgun.  The sound it makes when it fires is amazing as is the reload.  And knowing it was inspired by Evil Dead II makes it even better.  The soundtrack is just as kickass as the first game as well.  The tracks are varied and range from metal sounding to slow and evocative.  I think it’s better than the first.

Why are you hiding?

Overview:

As much as I want to finish this game, I can’t.  It seems like I have a 1 in 3 chance to get a bout of motion sickness when I play it.  I love the game but I can’t do it anymore.  I got to The Citadel and seeing that I was just another Mission away from beating the game pains me.  Maybe one day.
