Overview:

Have you ever thought about the lives of your LEGO pieces?  Specifically the little red or blue one block pieces.  Well, if you have, this is a game for you as LEGO Voyagers tells the story of Red and Blue seeing a rocket take off and crash which inspires them to scour the world looking for parts in order to make their own.  You’ll go through many biomes and puzzles as you collect the missing parts.  The puzzles will mainly be solved with you [and your partner] coming up with ways to cross gaps, design tools, or shape hulls to get you from point A to B.  It’s a simple game but is very cool at what it does.

What a beautiful game!

Visuals:

I always thought the LEGO Marvel/Harry Potter/Star Wars/etc. games were the pinnacle of what could be done on modern systems but I was dead wrong.  Voyagers looks fantastic!  All of the pieces look terrific and extremely realistic.  The environments also pull off the LEGO aesthetic extremely well with the tilt-shift camera angle really doing a lot of the heavy lifting.  The characters are also emotive in what they’re doing in so much they only have one eye and no mouth.  The game is super charming and it goes places that really are superb.

This image really brings out some good memories.

Audio:

Like with the visuals, the minimalistic approach to the game goes a long way.  The characters make little grunts or chirps depending on the context.  There isn’t any jaunty music or big bombastic orchestra going all the time but rather a moody background score to make you feel kind of dread around every corner.  I really have nothing to knock about the game in this regard.  It fits the mood perfectly.

Overview:

I FINISHED THIS GAME!  Me and my teammate went through every level and beat the game.  He got the good ending while I was left alone.  I guess we both were left alone but not really as we still were able to communicate.  Either way, what a lovely game and I can honestly say we were both bummed it was over so soon.  I want more of the game but the ending was super satisfactory.  Bravo LEGO and Light Brick Studio, you made me care about these little plastic pieces.

See you again, my friend…
