Overview:

Kris Kross was a global fuckin phenomenon back in the early 90s when it came out. I was a grade schooler at the time and these kids were someone I wanted to be. I didn’t dress like them, unfortunately, because I lacked the confidence. There were a couple of kids in my 2nd grade class who did and, let me tell you, they were cool. ANYWAYS, the Make My Video games were released to allow you to take the music video and splice it with royalty stock footage to make your own video! Of course you’re dictated by some random people to tell you what to put in the video, but that’s the biz. At the end, they grade you, and you can say you’re a director! By the way, this is on the Sega CD, so QUALITY IS BAD!

The formalities of this and that…

Visuals:

This is some grainy ass video for all three of the simultaneous videos going at once. Also the UI is all over the place because that’s just how the times were. The good thing is that you can switch between the video feeds with just a push of a button so you don’t really have to move a cursor around which allows for fast switching.

Is that Sega CD is wack

Audio:

Can I say that this is where the game fucking excels. The video may look like shit but the audio is where it’s at. The songs came through in a pretty good quality where all I really wanted to do was listen to the music and couldn’t care less about making my video. This one is top notch.

Completion:

Can you REALLY complete this game? I made my video, presented it to my client, he hated it, and then I got kicked to the home screen to make another video. If this is the case I guess the possibilities are endless since you can just keep creating different videos for the songs. So there’s that.

Lon Chaney?

Overview:

You take control of one of three characters and go through Metro City defeating street toughs to rescue your daughter! Even though they have a …business… proposition for Mayor Mike Haggar, he joins Cody and Guy to take them down once and for all. It’s a side scrolling beat-em-up game originally made for the arcade, so it was designed to eat quarters with cheapness. But now it’s for YOUR SEGA CD! This means you can actually play with two players and some of the levels that were taken from us!

Visuals:

For the time, this game was something else. The releases for other platforms always had something missing and was never the arcade experience. This all is changed since everything looks amazing and is a faithful adaptation of the game. There are still the same limits from the SNES version but at least nothing is actually removed.

Those ain’t ladies…

Audio:

This is where the Sega CD version shines! You get some rearranged music that is just fuckin’ rockin’ the entire time and gets you pumped. You also get A-M-A-Z-I-N-G voice acting setting up the story that just sounds like it was made for a very bad TV movie, like Master Ninja. I love it so much.

Completion:

As shown in the screenshot above, I got destroyed at the Subway level. I was so transfixed by the ladies that I let my guard down and just couldn’t come away with the W. It’s all good though, it’s a great game and, if I hit continue, I would have been able to probably beat it but I had to stick by my own rules.

At least I’m first!

Overview:

It’s a side scrolling game based on the movie. It’s very loosely based but that’s just how things were when movie-tie in games were released. If you don’t know what the Terminator franchise is, it’s about a CYBERNETIC ORGANISM (his words) being sent back in time to kill people…and constantly failing. Also paradoxes happen left and right but it’s best not to think about those.

Visuals:

This is a pretty crisp game, from a gameplay standpoint. The sprites and backgrounds are pretty sharp when you’re actually playing. There was some noticeable slowdown when I was bombarded by Terminators but that’s to be expected since they are VERY TOUGH (his words). The one nitpick about this game, and pretty much every game from this era that utilized them, the FMV is atrocious. I get that’s kind of the tech of the time, but mang that was rough.

Sweet resolution…

Audio:

The soundtrack isn’t bad. It’s CD quality audio and the sound effects are nice and crisp. It’s very much a banger with its metal and rock and of the time, it just loops.

Completion:

I was terminated in the first level. There are just so many of the fuckers all over the place that I kept getting killed. There is a generous checkpoint system so I did progress through the level but it took all my lives. I finally took out the last bigger robot and, as I was about to jump to complete the level [there is a nice big EXIT sign to show you where to go], I fell to my doom. At least they didn’t get the satisfaction of killing me so I got that going for me, which is nice.
