Overview:
An on rails spaceship shooter which has you taking control of Star Fox, and team Star Fox, as the vile Andross is trying to take over the Lylat System. It’s up to you to prevent this army of baddies and bosses as you navigate multiple planets across multiple difficulty paths. Which way you take is up to the certain missions which present themselves [some don’t] throughout the levels. You’ll come across some familiar friends and foes as well as be introduced to new ways for the Arwing [Fox’s ship] to traverse the worlds. Enjoy!

Visuals:
Star Fox 64 is a very simple game. What the game lacks in visual fidelity it more than makes up for it in the amount of enemies it throws at you while also giving each world its own identity. The characters are little more than talking heads, literally, and occasionally you’ll see their full bodies. All of the enemies are also unique to the world you’re on so you’ll rarely see the same one. The bosses are all pretty awesome and have their own style to them as well culminating with the final showdown which is pretty awesome to behold.

Audio:
For an N64 game to have COMPLETE voice acting is pretty amazing. The characters are all chattering away giving you words of encouragement, cries for help, or chiding you for shooting them. The enemies are all talking shit as well, so that’s pretty fun. I have always loved the little, “Good Luck.” you get when you’re about to start a mission. It’s nice. The music is top tier with it being one of the system’s defining scores. Like the visuals, each planet gets its own music track with all of them being completely different than the last.

Completion:
I FINISHED THIS GAME! Where Star Fox 64 lacks is in the game itself. If you know what you’re doing you can finish the game in about an hour. With the game being on rails there isn’t much for you to do or explore so you’re just along for the ride. Sure you can play it again and again to do the multiple paths and difficulties, but once you finish the hard path there isn’t much to do. There is multiplayer which my friends and I played but it really is just a one trick pony. You can also get a little medal based on the level which gives you a secret multiplayer mode but, after that, donezo. That’s not to say it’s a bad game, but it is short which is quite a shame. I still really enjoyed playing through it again and couldn’t recommend it enough.
