Let me tell you a little bit about Metal Gear Solid 3: Substinance for the PlayStation 2. This game, although kind of a “Director’s Cut” is a game very worthy of another purchase. Just replaying it with the new camera angle does shed new light on refining your stealth tactics to get your kills off with ease. Not to mention the new modes that they added on the second disc are fun as all Hell.

For starters, you get the original Metal Gear games that released on the MSX system back in the late eighties and early ninties. I thought I played the original ones on the NES, but apparently I was mistaken. These games are obviously where Metal Gear Solid came from and I am glad to get to play them. Unfortunately, the controls are the only thing that hinder these ports to play functionally. The PS2 controller’s broken D-Pad completely hinders your ability to manuver correctly and will, in time, cause your hand to blister [if you play it as much as I do]. If you can overlook these problems, go right ahead and play to your heart’s delight.

Another feature [from the get go] is Snake v Monkey. This was on the original MGS3, so I won’t go into much details, but it still is as lighthearted as ever. Basically, what you do is just stalk the monkies from Ape Escape in a comical spin off of the MGS “Tactical Espionage Action” and just attempt to debunk their plans of world domination with their own version of Metal Gear. I suggest you check this out if you get the game.

The meat and potatoes of this game is with the most revered amongst MGS fans, Online MGS!!. This game freaking rocks! Not only do you get to hunt each other, but hell, you can play it just like MGS with there being one “Snake” where the rest are gaurds looking for the grisly mofo. I only got to play one game, because I’m at a place with not so good connection, but I am sure as shit going to play this portion of the game more and more!

So, if you own a PS2, don’t be a fool and miss out on this game. If you have it, you may hesitate, but if you don’t have it, you do NOT have any excuse to not pick this game up. Also, if you’re under 17, be sure to STAY AWAY from it.
