Overview:

Metal Gear is a story about a soldier, Solid Snake, on a mission from his commanding officer, Big Boss, to infiltrate Outer Heaven and to destroy Metal Gear. On your mission you sneak past soldiers, rescue hostages, meet new accomplices, take on INCREDIBLE bosses, and listen to the same song for fucking hours on end.

Visuals:

For the time, Metal Gear is a gorgeous game. Everything stands out for what it is (even if they’re pretty big). All the items, special characters, bosses, and environments are pretty distinct.

Audio:

This is really a hit or miss area depending on how much you can stand. The sounds and music are pretty good for what they are but they just drone on soooo much and repeat very often. The codec calls are constantly beeping when you enter (and re-enter) a screen. The constant “!” when you get caught, if you do, becomes very annoying and causes you to want to run away from every encounter. Then, when you get away, back comes the droning, “bump bump bump bump duh nuh bump bump bump” starts over again.

Completion:

I FINISHED THIS GAME! I may not have done it in one sitting but I finished it. As much as I complained about the music, the game sucked me in. Also, I had just finished Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater while my girlfriend watched and I just had to give her the complete backstory to the characters. It really was a hell of a game and, every now and then, I will catch myself just going, “bump bump bump bump duh nuh” while walking around the house.
