Overview
Alpha Mission is a vertical scrolling shooting game, similar to 1942 only set in the IMAGINATIVE WORLD of space. Along the way you’ll be sending hundreds of missiles to take out turrets and other road [space?] blocks while navigating around the devastating horde of synchronized enemies spinning in front of you. Luckily you get enhancements to your ship to aid you in your valiant effort.
Visuals
Not much can really be said here. The stages are pretty bland with their use of very simple shapes and color pallet with the enemies also being largely uninspired. One of them was a fucking horseshoe crab skeleton. IN SPACE.
Audio
Like the visuals, there is not much that can really be mentioned about the audio for it lacks a high amount of it. There is some background music but you quickly tune it out as it is very forgettable. The sound effects don’t do much to lighten to mood either with some REALLY bland shots and missile sounds that seem like they were lifted from a terrible 1950’s movie.
Completion
This game gives you three lives from the start of it and should you fuck up, no matter how far in the level and how many power-ups you have acquired, you’re forced to start fresh from the FUCKING BEGINNING. So yeah, don’t die.
My third, and final, life is where the game picked up as I got some power-ups that helped my ship zip around the levels faster and others that made me shoot quicker. Unfortunately the invisible bounding boxes around the screen prevented me from moving away from a bullet and died. This game isn’t anything special until you get the right equipment.
