Overview:

A 3D platformer which has you (and a couple of friends) going through levels in multiple worlds overcoming obstacles, enemies, and challenges to try to prevent a villain from destroying their world into a scary place.  There are boss fights that pop up throughout the adventure as well as challenge stages which are completely different than a typical platforming world which can be quite difficult.  The main course of the game, though, is customization.  Throughout the levels and world there are hundreds if not thousands of pieces you can collect to help you differentiate your Sackboy from the rest.  To me it seems the parts never stop coming and are quite fun to try to collect.

There is an in depth story, but…

Visuals:

As great as the game looks I feel the look gets kind of tiring after a while.  Everything is supposed to look like cardboard or craftwork, but they don’t lean all the way into it because some, if not all, the stages will have electricity or random purple gas which will kill you instantly.  That’s not something that happens in craftwork!  Regardless, the game does look fantastic and the character designs for the Sackboys are extremely adorable.  The stages do all have a thematic look to them depending on the level and will crescendo into a boss stage which tends to tie everything together.  The cutscenes are also very well done and are a delight to see when they do appear.

You just wanna collect…

Audio:

I do love the way the game sounds.  When you spawn there is a satisfying chime that makes you aware it’s time to go.  When collectibles are opened a satisfying “POP” happens that sounds like a gashapon and it is super satisfying.  The voice acting in the game is entirely serviceable as is all the music.  It is quite enjoyable and never wears out its welcome.  Even when you’re doing the mission for a third or fourth time.

And accessorize…

I FINISHED THIS GAME!  My family and I went through all the levels and finally bested the final boss.  We didn’t really have too many problems with levels as it just took trial and error to get through the really devious levels.  It was an enjoyable time, and the customization was really what got us coming back to the game after we finished.

And stand out!
