Overview:

Gravity Rush has you take control of Kat…with a pet cat…who has amnesia as she’s trying to figure out what’s going on in the world she’s in.  She wakes up to a massive void destroying the city and it’s up to her to use her powers to save the day.  Her powers allow her to change gravity at her will to solve the many quests that present themselves.

Touch the screen…at the very beginning!

Visuals:

For a bit this game looks pretty nice when you consider it is on a handheld system but that impressiveness wears off pretty quickly.  Kat is very well modeled and detailed but the rest of the world and NPCs are so bland.  The environment is fully brown and just a jumbled mess.  Cutscenes are also pretty much nonexistent with the game utilizing comic panels to tell you what’s going on.

So much brown everywhere!

Audio:

There is quite a bit of voice acting but the most of the game is Kat just grunting or making confused gasps.  I do love the sounds the citizens make when you change gravity on them so that’s always a treat.  The rest of the game is just kind of bland with the audio presentation so there really isn’t much to say.

I have never liked comic panels as story mechanisms…

Completion:

Talk about the waste of a pretty cool premise.  I know this was at the height of motion controls and it was a big selling point of the Vita but HOLY SHIT does this game tack it on every fucking thing.  You have to swipe to go to the next comic panel, tap screens to select where you want to go, move the Vita around to aim…it’s quite annoying and cumbersome.  After the first cool mission you’re just left to do chores for the citizens to gain their trust.  It just becomes fetch quests super quickly and I lost interest immediately.  What a shame.
