Overview:

You take the role of Little Mac as he makes his way through the boxing ranks to become a champion.  Each opponent he fights has a crazy gimmick in which Little Mac will have to exploit if he wants to come up on top.  That’s basically it!  There isn’t any crazy story or third act plot…it’s just a pure boxing game and it’s pretty good at doing it!

I love the way this game looks!

Visuals:

This game still looks so good.  It perfectly took what made the original games so unique with their over the top characters.  You’ll get some of the same zany cast but the new guys are equally just as fun and entertaining to look at.  The little visual touches are also nice to see as well.  As you or your opponents get knocked down they’ll start developing little bruises, bandages, or missing teeth as the rounds progress.  Everything about this game is just so charming to see.  It’s a shame it’s still stuck on the Wii since this could look so much better.

And the boxing is so good too!

Audio:

Like the visuals, every little flourish this game adds is a delight to see.  The opponents show their weakness in the most hilarious ways and it’s up to you to make sure you take the audio cues to heart and take action.  All of them all have their own little personalities as well, even if it is very stereotypical.  The music from the originals is still there as are pretty much all the other sounds.

With such fun characters!

Completion:

Like all the other Punch-Outs I have yet to complete this game.  I tend to just get through the first couple of opponents then move on just because the game gets SUPER difficult and borderline annoying.  That’s not to say I don’t like this game.  I think it gets so much of the formula of Punch-Out perfectly.  I just wish there was a better way to play it rather than the Wii and its small little controller.

And that sweet spot of nostalgia!
